Hi all, I recently put a shell on and am having a hard time cleaning between the small space inbetween shell and truck. Any advice or proven methods to clean there? Thanks in advance.

What's the gap? Can you fit a cleaning wand in there? Or open your sliding window and go at it with a rag.

Its slim, maybe a few inches? Suppose i could always unscrew the cap and slide it back a bit

pre-soak, soap, rinse, I wouldn't concern myself beyond what a pressure wand can do.

I've taken mine for granted I guess, the front glass drops revealing the rear window on my Leer.

I think glass wipes + a thin plastic handle to get in there maybe?

This thread has some added ideas tho- https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/window-cleaning-tween-the-shell-and-cab.20179/

edit: also, welcome to the forum

In the 4 years I've had the shell I've cleaned the center area maybe 2-3 times and never cleaned the 2 sides. It just doesn't bother me I guess because I don't see it
  7. That is one of the reasons that a sliding window on the front of the shell is important.

    This.
You NEED to be cleaning well behind the cap and not letting it sit.

What I do (with my softopper) is break down the topper and wash the backside well. I clean the glass and put a hydrophobic glass coating on that back glass so it beads water so less dirt and grime builds up on the window when it rains. You can use a Rain-X like coating.

I treat the rubber gaskets around the window with a UV protector and treat the paint with a paint sealer like I do the rest of the truck (I use Jet Seal).

I only need to break down the topper to clean every 6 months and I have protection on the paint incase something gets back there and I can't see it and sits on the paint for a long time.

What shell did you put on? My Leer window folds down to clean that space and it's the cheapest one they make and is a standard option.

Before I put the camper on I used some paint sealant on the glass, would use a pressure washer to spray it down and it wouldn't leave streaks

I hardly ever clean in-between there. The rain takes care of it. But when I do, I utilize the fold-down window feature on the shell.

Once a year I take the clamps off and slide the cap back about 6" to clean everything. I also have an F-150 and when I bought the cap for it I paid $100 extra to have a front window in the shell that comes completely out. Makes it a lot easier to clean.

This is what you are looking for: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Unger-1...PIPHorizontal2_rr-_-204326114-_-207102223-_-N

You can buy these on telescoping poles and they are super handy for cleaning in all kinds of tough places. It is also soft so it won't damage your paint

  17. My cap has a fold down window in the front, I used it exactly once to verify it worked, and it did. Otherwise, I scoot in the back a couple time a year to get something out of the tool box stowed there, and to recharge my hot-shot box. I always take a spray bottle of windex and clean the inside of the window which gets way dirtier than the outside. Otherwise, my weekly truck wash where I let my scrub rag/sponge slip between cab and cap as far as it will go, then rinse well keeps the hard to reach outside surfaces clean enough - for me.
  18. at one time they sold a boot that went between your cab and shell i had one in the late 80s worked great i had a sliding rear window that i would open for heat in the bed when on hunting trips
  19. I have that but still not enough to get my hand in.

    This is my issue. 86D3C720-2EEC-481F-BA86-DC00DF1E15A5.jpg 2BD8DFB1-C8DC-4B78-ADE6-98A296EB4B24.jpg 2D7983A2-1F0B-467D-9A85-4F3BBD6FE7AD.jpg

Guess my only option is remove the cap
